AquAdvisor - Software for aquarium hobbyists

Update (2009 10 05): I am no longer working on the desktop version of this software due to support issues. I have moved on to the web version of this software. Please try www.aqadvisor.com - Online Aquarium Tool instead. This site gets frequent updates with weekly new features!

Click on the following links to download the software. AquAdvisor will ask you to download .Net v3.5. Although the process will be seamless and easy, if you don't want this version of .Net, then this is your warning.

  • v0.5 (ZIP file) - Published on Apr 3, 2009 with the following new features:
    • Automatically upgrades from v0.4! No need to uninstall v0.4 manually.
    • Fixed minimum tank requirement issue for some smaller species.
    • Some bugs have been fixed in DB.
    • New species have been added to the DB. (200 species in total)
    • Fish size now correctly displays one decimal place numbers.
    • Some snails and shrimps have been added. Now there are 20 shrimps and 9 snails in DB!

    • Minimum recommended number for fin nipping species have been increased from 6 to 9.
    • Breeding pair flag has been added. If a bonded pair cannot tolerate others of the same species in a given tank size, warning will be displayed.
    • Started looking at biotope compatibility. For now, it checks only for Mbuna and Lake Tang species for potential biotope compatibility problems.
    • Reports recommended pH range and also potential conflicts on selected species. pH ranges used here are somewhat more generous than their native environment since most species can adopt to wider pH ranges.
  • v0.4 (ZIP file) - Published on Mar 21, 2009 with the following new features:
    • Switched to MSI based install. It will create a desktop icon and will also upgrade from an older version gracefully (I hope!)
    • More fishes in DB. (130 now)
    • Further refined analysis calculations.
    • Added a filter checkbox for displaying only the compatible species by your tank size.
    • Ability to select units for Tank dimension, volume and temperature.
    • Couple of shrimps have been added into DB.
    • Added dimensions for 3 bowfront tanks. (26g, 36g and 46g)
  • v0.3 (ZIP file, RAR file) - Published on Mar 15, 2009 with the following new features:

    • Pre-determined tank sizes can be selected.
    • Added progress bar representing the current stock level.
    • Scientific names have been added.
    • Displays warnings for species with too much or too little aggression to co-exist in the selected stock. Also takes into account extra aggression during breeding time.
    • Displays warnings for species that are too small or too large to co-exist in the selected stock.
    • Displays warnings for species with different water temperature requirements.
    • Displays warning if selected species require a vegetarian diet.

    • Info window has been added to display additional info about the selected species.
    • Displays warning if selected species is too big for the given tank.
    • Displays warning if user selects less than minimum recommended number of species.
  • v0.1 - Published on Mar 9, 2009. Its a simple prototype which shows the concept of how this application may work in the future. It has a rudementary feature to help aquarium hobbists stock right amount of fishes in their tanks and look into "what if" scenarios. Very limited selection of fishes to choose from and factors such as aggression and water requirement compatibility factors are not taken into account (yet).
